Reported: October 22, 2019
Ritsumeikan University and the Alumni Association of Ritsumeikan have set the world record for the largest book sentence by using books to spell out ‘Challenge your mind. Change our future’, the slogan for the R2030 Ritsumeikan Academy Vision.
The purpose of this world record attempt was to create a virtuous circle of support and boost students’ motivation to learn. To do this, alumni, faculty, and staff donated books that they felt new students enrolling next spring should read, and they used these to create the sentence. The attempt was made as part of the celebration of the Alumni Association’s 100th anniversary based on the concept of “We will foster a culture of reciprocity throughout Ritsumeikan,” which is the code of conduct defined in the Alumni Association’s Activity Vision. The Alumni Association began soliciting donations in September and received books from more than 400 alumni, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. With this successful world record attempt, the Alumni Association hopes to send a positive message to the students, who will be the leaders of the future, and mark the first step of the Alumni Association’s next 100 years.
The world record was attempted and achieved at the 100th Anniversary All-Ritsumeikan Alumni Convention held on Saturday, October 19, 2019. The Alumni Association would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who cooperated with this event.
